| Check Over | Inspect instrument, identify and fix faults. |
| Service | Instrument is disassembled and cleaned; mechanisms are lubricated; corks and pads are replaced as necessary;
instrument re-assembled to best possible working order. |
| Overhaul | All pads replaced. Tenon corks replaced (wooden instruments) |
